Abu Dhabi to regulate antidote stocks in healthcare facilities

The Health Authority Abu Dhabi (HAAD) has introduced a new standard in healthcare facilities aimed at helping healthcare providers ensure continuous, safe access to and uses of antidotes, used to counteract poisoning, Wam has reported. The Antidote Stocks standard was formulated after a recent survey showed that only 10% of hospitals in the emirate adequately stocked the 12 identified essential antidotes that should be immediately available at emergency rooms (ER) or any area where poisoned patients are initially treated. The standard applies to all HAAD licensed healthcare providers, facilities with emergency services departments and professionals and acts as an interim advisory guide for a period of six month and will become mandatory on June 1, 2011.
