Ambulatory Health Services (AHS), a part of the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA), today announced that it has successfully completed the 2013 edition of its ‘Absher Doctors Program’, an initiative launched to provide specialized care to patients residing in remote areas of the emirate of Abu Dhabi such as Al Quaa, Al Hayer, Sweihan and Mezyad.
Offering specialist care in diverse fields of medicine such as cardiology, dermatology, obstetrics and gynecology, orthodontics and dental implants, as well as ear, nose and throat (ENT) consultations, the last session of the 2013 Absher program was rolled out from 8 – 11 December.
The four sessions, held in the months of March, June, September and December this year at the AHS health centers in these remote areas, proved hugely successful among patients with limited access to specialized medical care.
Speaking about the success of the program, Ambulatory Healthcare Services Chief Operations Officer Louise Bain said: “The primary objective behind the program was to make sure that people living in remote areas are not denied the expert medical attention that their urban counterparts can easily access”.
“We are deeply encouraged by the overwhelming response from the people. The significant number of medical procedures conducted during the sessions confirmed the timeliness and imperative need for such an initiative,” Bain added.
In March this year, 284 patients utilized the free consultations during the program that registered 95 procedures. In June, a total of 273 patients received treatment and resulted in 111 procedures ranging from echocardiograms to dental surgeries. In September, 269 patients benefitted from the program with the total number of procedures reaching 183. In the fourth and last session in December, the Absher Doctors Program offered consultation to 273 patients and conducted 145 procedures.
“The consistency in the number of beneficiaries of the program validates its success in catering to the medical needs of patients in their respective areas. We hope to continue the good work in 2014,” Bain stated.
The Absher Doctors Program was launched by SEHA in 2012. The idea behind the initiative is to provide the best of healthcare with effective utilization of the available human resources. The program ensures that necessary medical expertise is extended to all patients through resource sharing and service rotation. The healthcare initiative also allows patients to avoid the practical difficulties of being shifted away from their residential locations.
Committed to making the lives of people in the emirate healthier, AHS uniquely combines local research findings and the latest scientific evidence in the delivery of its services. As the primary care provider in the emirate of Abu Dhabi, AHS centers aim at the early detection of diseases and the commencement of appropriate treatment.
