Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C (Alba), one of the world’s leading aluminium smelters, underlined its long-standing commitment to employees’ safety with the launch of its new campaign titled “Together we can beat the heat” on Thursday, July 23, 2015.
The campaign’s opening ceremony was attended by Alba’s CEO – Tim Murray, other Executive Management and Chairman of Alba Labour Union – Ali Al Binali along with other representatives of Alba Labour Union.
An initiative by Alba’s Management, this campaign aims to improve safety awareness amongst the employees and minimise heat stress related injuries by focusing on four main steps: know the symptoms, drink water regularly, use the cooling cloth and take frequent breaks.
This campaign will include several visits in the coming few weeks by members of Alba’s Management to operational areas to urge employees to watch over their colleagues during the hot summer months.
Commenting on the new safety campaign, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer, Tim Murray, said, “The summer months are a very difficult period and it is our top priority to ensure our workers’ safety. Through our continued campaigns, we are encouraging the ownership of safety and asking all employees and contractors to raise safety awareness”.
With the beginning of Summer 2015, Alba had launched many initiatives targeted at improving safety culture across the plant, including summer safety awareness sessions in all operational areas, heat stress sessions during the SHE Campaign “Safety Jungle”, a full day dedicated to Ramadan Safety during the SHE week, as well as after-Iftar safety visits conducted by the Executive Management in the plant with shop-floor employees.
