Amana Healthcare, a specialized provider of long-term acute care, post-acute rehabilitation, home transition and respite care services, celebrated the inauguration of the UAE’s first specialized inpatient rehabilitation hospital with a ribbon cutting ceremony by H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan.
Located in Abu Dhabi, the hospital strengthens Amana Healthcare’s position as the largest and fastest-growing provider of specialized long-term acute care, post-acute rehabilitation and home transition and respite care services in the Middle East.
H.E. Sheikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan said: “The expansion of Amana Healthcare and the development of this specialized rehabilitation hospital fulfill a critical need in the continuum of healthcare in the UAE, particularly for patients who need intensive rehabilitation after a stroke or a serious illness. We are impressed with the quality of care offered at the facility and its contribution to the UAE’s healthcare sector as a whole.”
The Abu Dhabi hospital is the second facility developed by Amana Healthcare. The first, a specialized long-term care hospital launched in Al Ain in 2013, focuses on patients with complex long-term medical conditions who need round-the-clock nursing and medical supervision.
“Under the guidance of the UAE leadership, health authorities throughout the United Arab Emirates are encouraging the private sector to innovate and bring new services to the country – especially specialized services focused on the unique demographic and epidemiologic needs of the country. After launching our first hospital the UAE in 2013, we observed a significant need for high-quality inpatient rehabilitation given the high rates of stroke, trauma and complex medical illnesses in the UAE. On this basis we decided to build the UAE’s first specialized inpatient rehabilitation hospital so that UAE patients could receive these services locally, without having to travel for equivalent services to Europe or North America,” said Mark E. McGourty, Chief Executive Officer of Amana Healthcare.
“Our objective is to bring to the UAE the best medical and rehabilitation care the world has to offer – enabling patients to benefit from world-class care in the comfort of their own cultural environment and with their families by their sides,” he added.
Amana Healthcare’s new hospital specializes in intensive inpatient rehabilitation for patients after stroke, head injury or major trauma, surgery or illness. Each patient receives a customized rehabilitation program with a minimum of three hours per day of hands-on therapy for a 30-90 day period with the objective of maximizing functional recovery and independence.
The program is carried out using state-of-the-art equipment in gyms, a large hydrotherapy pool and two therapy gardens at the facility. Patients benefit from a large in-house rehabilitation team that includes Western-trained physicians and rehabilitation experts such as physiotherapists, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists, assistive technology specialists, respiratory therapists, special educators, nutritionists and social workers, among others. Amana Healthcare also provides a dedicated home transition program that provides regular home-based or outpatient care for patients after discharge.
Established with the philosophy to provide each patient with the right type of care, in the right setting, at the right time, Amana Healthcare provides patients and their families with exceptional medical and rehabilitation services in a specialized environment. Amana Healthcare’s services are designed around the medical, cultural and social needs of the UAE population and round-the-clock services are offered by the largest team of in-house rehabilitation experts in the country. This allows patients the opportunity to maximise their potential for functional recovery even after the most severe illnesses and injuries.
Adding a new dimension to therapy, Amana Healthcare partnered with Emirati artists who have volunteered their time and talent to bring to life patients’ imagination. Giving patients a voice and the ability to express emotions, the artwork showcases their unique personalities. The artwork was displayed at the event and demonstrates the importance Amana Healthcare puts into providing patients with ways to re-integrate into the community.
