Amman Chamber of Industry’s exports rise 3 per cent

Total value reached JOD2.749bn despite drops in traditional markets like Iraq, Syria, Egypt, etc.

Amman Chamber of Industry’s exports grew during the past eight months of the year, despite the drop of its traditional markets, especially Iraq and Syria.

According to statistical data, the chamber’s exports rose by three per cent or JOD83 million during the past eight months compared with the same period of 2014, Jordan’s Petra News Agency reports.

The statistical data points out that the chamber’s exports rose during the past eight months of the year to JOD2.749 billion compared to JOD2.666bn for the same period last year.

The statistics showed a drop in the Amman Chamber of Industry’s exports to the Iraqi market during the past eight months of the year by 26 per cent, recording JOD427m, compared with JOD575m for the same period of year 2014, due to the closure of the Iraqi borders with Saudi Arabia.

Statistics also showed that the chamber’s exports to Saudi Arabia reached JOD474m during the past eight months of the year, while those to the US reached JOD265m and to India JOD261m.

Data also showed a drop in the chamber’s exports to Egypt from JOD53m to JOD49m and Libya from JOD16m to JOD14m during the past eight months compared with the same period last year.

The chamber’s exports to the UAE during the same period rose to hit JOD218m compared to JOD102m during the same period last year.
