Aspire Academy to strengthen collaboration with parents of its student-athletes

Aspire Academy regularly organises such meetings to provide opportunities to keep parents updated regarding the performance and progress of its students

Aspire Academy hosted on Tuesday evening a parents’ meeting for grade levels 7, 8 and 9 for the first semester of the 2015-2016 academic year.

The meeting gave the Academy the opportunity to meet the parents of its student-athletes to reflect on their performance thus far, and discuss further collaboration and means of improving their academic lives.

The meeting also helped the Academy’s teachers and coaches communicate their expectations of the student-athletes, build close rapport with the parents and boost trust with the local community.

Commenting on the meeting, School Principal Mr. Jassim Al-Jabir said: “We host this parents meeting every semester, after the students have received their mid-semester progress reports, which review their academic, athletic and behavioural performance. This meeting gives parents the chance to discuss with our teachers and coaches students’ results.”

“In addition, parents also have the chance to meet with the heads of the programmes at the Academy, such as leadership, student, social and accommodation affairs, amongst others, to get additional comprehensive evaluations that contribute positively to the students’ development. These meetings stem from our belief in the importance of the parents’ role in supporting the guidance and education the students receive at the Academy, which enriches their growth,” he added.

From his side, Mr. Khamees Jassim Al Muraikhi, parent of one of the students, Ahmad Al Muraikhi, expressed the importance of such meetings, stating: “The setting of the meeting lets teachers and parents have a comfortable conversation about the students. I was able to sense today from the teachers and coaches the comprehensive level of care that the Academy provides for its students and such meetings play a vital role in strengthening the communication channels between us and the Academy, which reflects positively on the students.”

John Nuttall, Head Coach of Athletics at Aspire Academy, also stressed the importance of these parent-teacher meetings, which serve as a platform to clarify and answer any questions raised by both sides. He also commended the high attendance and level of engagement made by parents.

Aspire Academy regularly organises such meetings to provide opportunities to keep parents updated regarding the performance and progress of its students and the steps being taken in support of the Academy’s mission to develop Qatar’s future generation of elite athletes.
