Bahrain retailers protest over Chinatown cancellation

Retailers in Bahrain have petitioned the Bahrain Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BCCI) and the ministry of industry and commerce to cancel a multi-million dinar project to create the country's 'Chinatown' in Muharraq, claiming it will damage local traders, Gulf Daily News has reported. Set to be operational by the first quarter of 2014, the Dragon City project intends to bring 300 Chinese businesses to Bahrain offering imported Chinese goods. "This project is totally unacceptable and will drive us out of business," a local trader told the daily. "Sooner rather than later, we will see 600 Chinese businessmen here and very quickly they will take over Bahrain's businesses," he said.
