Consolidating the achievement of Bank Sohar’s HR department as one of the leaders in the banking sector, Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki, DGM – Human Resources & Corporate Support at Bank Sohar has been awarded the prestigious ‘Al Mara Special Award for Excellence in Human Resources’ at the Al Mara Excellence Awards 2013 which was held recently at the beginning of the month at the Intercontinental Hotel Gardens – Muscat. The award was presented for her achievements in HR and in recognition of her efforts in expanding Bank Sohar’s vision of philanthropy.
The Al Mar’a Excellence Awards, which was held under the patronage of Ms. Manal Al Abduwani, Director General of Planning & Follow up at the Ministry of Commerce & Industry has proven to be an excellent platform which recognizes the achievements and entrepreneurial zeal of women in the Sultanate. The awards recognize and encourage Omani women who have conquered the odds and have reached challenging positions in diverse areas like business, government, industry, education and other relevant fields. The event was attended by top female leaders of the corporate world and women in various positions of power within the country.
Dr. Mohamed Abdulaziz Kalmoor, CEO of Bank Sohar congratulated Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki on this accomplishment and said “She is truly deserving of this award. In fact, it is under her astute management that the HR department has managed to achieve an exceptional Omanisation ratio of 90% within the bank. Thanks to her tireless efforts, Bank Sohar has garnered a reputation for organizing high level training programs for its staff and actively participating in Corporate Responsibility programs. Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki is also the driving force behind the various philanthropic and community engagement programs the Bank has pioneered since its inception, six years. Her steadfast dedication to her job and the community is no doubt an inspiration to us all.”
In addition to achieving 90% Omanisation within the Bank under Ms. Munira Abdulnabi Macki’s guidance, Bank Sohar has also introduced numerous staff recognition and training programs in order to prepare and educate the Omani youth. Additionally, the bank has also received several prestigious foreign and regional awards for its contribution to the community including the ‘Best Corporate Social Responsibility Bank Oman 2013’ award by renowned UK based Global Banking & Finance Review and the ‘Golden Excellence Award for Corporate Social Responsibility’ for the second year in a row by Arab Organisation for Social Responsibility in Dubai.
Ms. Munira is a Bachelors degree holder in Philosophy and Psychology from Beirut Arab University, Lebanon, and a Masters degree holder in Education from Sheffield University, UK, she began her career as a teacher in the Ministry of Education in 1983 moving on to be the Deputy Director – Educational Activities in 1991. Having completed a programme on ‘Human Resource Strategy in Transforming Organizations’, at the London Business School, she was well equipped to take on her next role as the Head of Corporate Affairs at Alliance Housing Bank before moving to the newly formed Bank Sohar management team in 2007. She has since maintained her position as one of the most influential women in the country.
