Canton Fair announces the launch of its 118th session in China

Trade volume between China and Egypt has been steadily increasing over the past three years.

Today, China Foreign Trade Centre (CFTC), the organizer of Canton Fair, in collaboration with the Embassy of the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in Egypt, held a conference to announce the launch of the 118th Canton Fair, due to take place from 15 October – 4 November 2015 at the Import and Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou, China.

The conference was attended by Mr. Yu Yi, Vice President of International Communication Department of China Foreign Trade Centre, and Mr. Ahmed Hassan Sharkas, Second Vice of Chairman of the Board, Alexandria Chamber of Commerce, as well as several members from the chamber of commerce.

Over the past three years, trade volume between China and Egypt has been steadily increasing. In 2012, China became the top trade partner for Egypt, with a trade volume of $9.5billion. According to the Chinese Embassy in Egypt, the total trade volume between both countries reached $11.6 billion in 2014, compared to $10.2 billion in 2013. From January to June 2015, bilateral trade volume reached $6.2billion, with 13.27% increase compared to the same period last year.

The commercial trade between Egypt and China includes various products exported from Egypt to China and vice versa. In 2014, Egyptian exports to China amounted to $1.16 billion including Crude Oil and Gas Oil, Marble and Granites, Iron Ore and Iron Sand, and Leather. In the same year, Egyptian imports from China amounted to $10.46billion and included Machinery and Electronic Products, Ready-made Clothes and textile materials, Vehicles and Spare Parts.

“The trade between Egypt and China has recently flourished. It is therefore vital that both sides seize the increasing trade and investment opportunities, which will positively reflect of the economies of both countries,” said Mr. Yu Yi, Vice President of International Communication Department of China Foreign Trade Centre. “Out of all delegations coming from the MENA region to Canton Fair, the Egyptian delegation is usually the largest. This reflects the strong commercial ties between Egypt and China and I am confident that both countries are committed to maintaining such healthy relations. This means constantly developing new tools, promotions and initiatives, as well as collaborating with business associations in Egypt and across the world, reaching out to companies that will appreciate just how valuable the Canton Fair can be.”

Canton Fair was initially launched in 1957 in Guangzhou, China. For over 50 years, Canton Fair has enjoyed the largest scale, the most complete exhibit variety, the best business turnover in China, and the biggest buyer attendance from the broadest range of countries for 117 sessions.

The 117th Canton Fair concluded on May 5th, 2015 and attracted 184,801 buyers from 216 countries and regions. These figures reflect the huge commercial value of Canton Fair and its importance in contributing to global trade.

With the support of both the Ministry of Commerce of the People’s Republic of China and People’s Government of Guangdong Province, Canton Fair is China’s largest platform of its kind in terms of exhibition area, as the complex covers over 1,100,000sqm, which includes the indoor exhibition area of 338,000sqm and the outdoor exhibition area of 43,600sqm.

This provides around 59,000 exhibition units. Focused on international demand, Canton Fair exhibits over 150,000 categories of quality products, both from China and overseas, including products with famous brands, traditional design and creative innovation, all reflecting the latest feature of different sectors. All these factors combines make the Canton Fair the largest, most comprehensive and specialized trade event.

A major highlight of the Canton Fair is the International Pavilion that was inaugurated in the 101st session onwards to promote balanced growth of import and export. In the 117th session, there were 951 stands and 600 enterprises from 47 countries and regions in the International Pavilion exhibiting their products. In the coming 118th session, the International Pavilion is expected to host 951 stands and the total exhibition area is expected to reach 20,000sqm.

Over the years, Canton Fair built a reputation of strict screening of quality exhibitors and strong supervision and management of exhibit’s quality and trade disputes, while optimizing the exhibits’ categorization and fostering new sections of new energy and pet products.

Currently, the international economic situation is undergoing great adjustment. As the premium platform for economic and trade cooperation between China and other countries, the 118th Canton Fair will attract more attention from the world. The exhibition duration and phase, product section and exhibition scale of the 118th session will remain the same as those in the 117th session.

Canton Fair is a comprehensive and specialized trade event, with about 24,000 outstanding enterprises participating from all over the world in both the spring and the autumn sessions. Each session of the Fair includes three phases.

The first phase of this session is from 15-19 October, exhibiting electronics and house appliance, lighting equipment, vehicle and spare parts, machinery, hardware and tools, construction materials, chemical products and new energy solutions.

The second phase is from 23-27 October, exhibiting home decorations, gifts and consumer goods, while the third phase runs from 31 October – 4 November and includes textile, food items, office supplies, medical products and shoes.
