“Clean Up UAE” collects 98 tonnes of waste with the involvement of 123,000 volunteers

The Emirates Environmental Group have been able to bring together more than 123,000 volunteers to participate in the 13th edition of their campaign “Clean Up UAE”, where they successfully collected 98 tonnes of waste from 104 different locations in the UAE and this campaign took place over the course of 6th – 15th December creating another successful outcome for itself.

Mrs. Habiba Al Marashi, the Chairperson of EEG thanked all of the volunteers that proved the importance pf the topic of environmental protection, also particularly giving thanks to those members that put together this campaign, which they have been organizing year after year.

The campaign has also been able to involve governmental agencies in the campaign through their logistics support, which has played a big role in its success in the different Emirates. EEG’s Chairperson directed her thanks to the different municipalities that have taken care of the logistics and the transportation of all the waste collected and ensured their proper disposal.

The 13th cycle saw the participation of corporations and governmental agencies in the campaign and managed to build a relationship between them and the communities and individuals involved and this has had a positive impact on activities that are aimed at creating public awareness with regards to protecting our environment and the natural resources for the future generations to come.

She commended the positive contribution of the students that have proved their capabilities in being environmental protectors, especially those members of the group that have set a great example of actively participating on a yearly basis to servicing their environment.

She went on to acknowledge the sponsors of the campaign in Dubai: Dubai Electricity and Water Authority – Main Sponsor, McDonalds& Deutsche Bank – Co Sponsor, Dubai Properties Group – Support Sponsors.

The Main sponsor of the campaign in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi was Huawei and Supported by BP UAE.

In Sharjah the campaign was Co-Sponsored by Bee’ah – The Sharjah Environment Company

All the campaign stations were a great success, especially in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah that has was the best organized in the current round, due to the drive and momentum of the government, directing her particular gratitude to Engineer Sheikh Salem Bin Sultan Al Qassimi, Head of Department of Civil Aviation in Ras Al Khaimah and his Excellency Ahmed Al Hammadi, General Manager of Ras Al Khaimah Public Works & Services Department.

Supporters from the Emirate of Fujairah included Fujairah Natural Resources Corporation and the Fujairah municipality in addition to the Al Ain municipality in the city of Al Ain. Environmental Protected Areas Authority (EPAA) was the implementing partner of the Campaign in Emirate of Sharjah with key support provided by Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.

EEG is grateful to the logistical supporters of the campaign, who were Coca Cola (Arwa), and the Almarai, and Fujairah Plastic Factories Media Sponsors included 7 Days Gulf News, Radio One and Fujairah FM.
A final note of appreciation for their efforts and hard work was extended to the Police, Civil Defence and Ambulance for providing the safety and security of the campaign and ensuring the safety of the volunteers in all locations.
