Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC) has said four international design firms are currently competing to set up the masterplan for the emirate’s upcoming commercial development, Arab News has reported. The new ‘Burj 2020′ District’ will have the world’s tallest commercial tower as its centrepiece, the DMCC said. “We have selected four of the world’s top creative, specialized firms to design a Masterplan for the Burj 2020 District,” said Ahmed bin Sulayem, executive chairman of DMCC. The master-plan design competition follows DMCC’s announcement in July 2013 to build the world’s tallest commercial tower as part of its Free Zone expansion plans; DMCC named the tower ‘Burj 2020’ in November 2013 in honour of Dubai’s Expo 2020 win. The ground breaking for the ‘Burj 2020 District’ is planned for 2015.
