The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority (Dubai Culture), the Emirate’s dedicated entity for heritage, arts and culture, hosted a banquet for a group of elderly Emirati citizens, at the Culture Village in Dubai in collaboration with Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation, to celebrate the International Day of Older.
The initiative was also part of Dubai Culture’s participation in the annual ‘In Our Hearts’ campaign led by the UAE. The banquet was attended by HH Sheikha Fatima Bin Hasher Bin Dalmook Al Maktoum; HE Khalid Khalifa Al Tani, Deputy Secretary General of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation; Dr. Salwa Al Suwaidi, Director of Family Development Centers; Dr. Saif Alibdwaoa; Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of Heritage Village, as well as a number of employees from Dubai Culture & Arts Authority and of Awqaf and Minors Affairs Foundation.
The employees of ‘Dubai Culture’ welcomed the elders with their companions and served them Arabic coffee, dates, and traditional Emirati food. A series of entertaining events were held by Dubai Culture including traditional Emirati performances, heritage songs, henna drawings and a display of local handicrafts.
After the banquet, a traditional Majlis hosted the participants where the elderly shared their views and experiences with the employees, and highlighted the ways of living in the UAE during the last decades. A documentary film on the lifestyle of people living in the UAE in 1950s was shown at the gathering.
“The Dubai Culture & Arts Authority partners on this event every year as part of its participation in the International Day of Older Persons and the national campaign ‘In Our Hearts’. This initiative is line with our vision to enhance social development in the Emirate, and empower all segments of the society, particularly, the elderly, who worked beside our founding fathers, in contributing generously to the prosperity and welfare of this nation,” said Saleh Al Hammadi, Director of Heritage Village.
“Dubai Culture is keen to promote dialogue with the elderly and gain their opinions and thoughts on the efforts exerted to strengthen the national identity and enhance the cultural scene of the Emirate,” he added.
