Dubai dominates hair transplant field

Hair transplant pioneer Dr. Ziakas warns against bogus hair restoration techniques and underlines local cost competitiveness

Figures from the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery in 2010 show that 923,599 hair restoration procedures were performed globally — 672,391 non-surgical and 251,208 surgical. Between 2004 and 2011, the number of hair transplant procedures rose 454 percent in the Middle East and 345 percent in Asia.

Dr. Dimitrios Ziakas, General Manager, Direct Hair Implantation (DHI), Al Burj Medical Center in Business Bay, believes Dubai is well positioned to be one of the best cities in the Middle East to offer the most advanced techniques and solutions, and scores high in credibility and confidence compared to other destinations, including Istanbul.

According to Dr. Ziakas, about 60 per cent of the male population in the UAE is expected to experience some kind of hair loss in their lifetime, while the average global figure is 40 per cent.

“Many of these patients go outside the UAE for hair transplants, due to lack of awareness about the world class hair transplant services available within the country. However, such surgery visits are known to have unpleasant and poor results, lost investment and loss of time.  The financial aspect is really the same or sometime higher when they add the travel and accommodation expenses. Some patients also fall into the trap of deceptive advertisements. The fact is that it is very difficult to find a trust-worthy and result-oriented clinic with accountability while flying in to a new country a patient never lived in,” added Dr. Ziakas.

With over 30 affiliated centres worldwide and over 100,000 satisfied clients, DHI Medical Group has been at the forefront of bringing to the region pioneering technologies and techniques in hair transplant, direct scalp micropigmentation, PRP (Platelet-Rich Plasma), and eyebrow restoration, among others.

“The hair solutions here in Dubai offer many advantages, being cost-effective due to the highly competitive market, higher quality as more skilled specialists are working in the field locally, lower risks due to the advanced tools used, and the availability of service and follow up,” added Dr. Ziakas.

“The Dubai market is set to experience dramatic growth, as larger number of patients visit the city seeking world-class hair restoration services,” concluded Dr. Ziakas.

DHI has successfully restored hair for over 150,000 clients, making DHI Medical Group a true global leader in Hair Restoration Technologies. Founded by Mr K.P. Giotis in 1970, the Group has had a single-minded focus on research, diagnosis and treatment of hair and scalp disorders. Forty-three years on, the resulting DHI Total Care System ensures each DHI clinic across the globe complies with the highest standards in the treatment of hair loss.
