Dubai mourns death of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum

Dubai Ruler’s court declares three days of mourning in Dubai, but government departments and institutions will continue to function as normal

Dubai Ruler’s court has mourned the death of Sheikh Rashid bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who died of a heart attack on Saturday (September 19) morning.

Sheikh Rashid is the eldest son of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai. He is also the elder brother to the emirate’s heir apparent, Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed Al Maktoum.

The Ruler’s court declared three days of mourning in Dubai beginning Saturday (September 19) and flags will be flown at half-mast at government departments and institutions.

Government departments and institutions in the emirate of Dubai will continue as normal during the mourning period, according to the UAE’s state news agency WAM.

President His Highness Shaikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan and  rulers of the emirates have mourned the death of Sheikh Rashid, who was a keen horse lover and owner of Zabeel Stables.

Funeral prayers for Sheikh Rashid will be offered at Zabeel Mosque. The burial will take place at Umm Hurair cemetery at Al Fahidi in Bur Dubai.
