Dubai sees rise in business permits issuance

Dubai issued 59,130 commercial permits during 2014 reflecting growing activity in various business areas

In an indication of robust economic activity, the issuance of business permits in Dubai rose by 13 per cent in 2014 compared to 2013, a new report from the Department of Economic Development (DED) says.

Dubai issued 59,130 commercial permits during 2014 reflecting growing activity in various business areas, namely retailing and promotions, the report says.

Banner advertising accounts for the major chunk of issued permits, reaching 57 per cent of the total.

According to the annual report, permits issued for warehouses in Dubai showed an increase 0f 200 per cent between 2013 and 2014.

Permits for extended operational hours also saw an increase, from 2,351 in 2013 to 2,513 in 2014, the DED report says.

The exhibition industry, which promotes Dubai as a meetings, incentives, conventions and exhibitions (MICE) destination, witnessed a strong growth in 2014 as 198 trade fair permits were issued compared to 163 in 2013.

The rise in this key sector indicates that Dubai remains a favourable destination for conferences and to showcase products.

According to the DED report, 2,191 retail sector permits were granted during the summer of 2014, most of them for promotions and discounts.
