HE Ahmad Bin Shafar: “We offer full support to Government of Dubai’s efforts in hosting the best-ever World Expo”

In line with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, and to support the Government of Dubai’s efforts in hosting the best World Expo in history, HE Ahmad Bin Shafar, Chief Executive Officer of Emirates Central Cooling Systems Corporation (Empower), the world’s largest District Cooling (DC) services provider, led a delegation to Milano Expo 2015 to exchange expertise with global peers, and review successful case studies at the exhibition in particular, and Milano and Italy in general.

Over three days, the delegation studied the evolution of DC sector in the city of Milano, in addition to the best achievements in cooling and heating technologies, and quality of materials used in distribution networks. It was also briefed on the level of reliance on renewable energy solutions, with an eye on future implementation in Empower’s operations.

“Empower is a part of the energy system in Dubai which offers a global model for the energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainability and innovation. It provides an ideal environment that offers attractive investment opportunities in renewable energy and energy efficiency. This visit is in line with our steady expansion in providing DC services in Dubai, and the increase in our production capacity, to keep pace with the development of new real estate projects. We went to the Expo Milano 2015 to benefit from the experiences of this city. We are moving within a long-term plan to make sure we can meet the requirements of Dubai, and provide the required refrigeration tons (RT) to serve giant projects, according to the highest global technology and efficiency standards,” said Bin Shafar.

“We reviewed detailed studies of Expo Milano in the efficiency of cooling systems, and the size of the RT allocated for the exhibition area. The aim of the visit is to explore the possibility of adopting these systems for Expo Dubai and identify shortcomings of previous editions, while supporting the vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, to host the best-ever edition of World Expo in Dubai,” added Bin Shafar.

The Empower delegation held a number of meetings during the visit, and also visited the UAE Pavilion. The company delegation also met with a number of the leading specialists in DC global sector, and exchanged the vision and ideas for future cooperation.

“In line with the aspirations of Government of Dubai to host the best-ever Expo in Dubai in 2020, there is a need for collaboration between the public and private sectors. Therefore, it is necessary for all the major service providers to understand the global standards in the related services, and work to exceed expectations,” concluded Bin Shafar.
