Food poisoning cases down 9% in Dubai

The Dubai Central Laboratory has said food poisoning in the emirate fell 9% in 2011, compared with the previous year, thanks to thorough inspections by Dubai municipality at eateries and food processing units, The National has reported. The facility tested 297 food samples as part of suspected food poisoning cases in 2011, but uncovered no cases of great importance, said Maha Al Hajri, head of the food and environment section. "Complaints from the public regarding food poisoning was reduced by 9% last year compared to 2010," she said. The lab's test figures for 2011 showed a 51% decrease in the number of products found not complying with municipality specifications, she noted.
