This comes as a result of a latest decision of the Ministry of Manpower (MOM) issuing a list of professions restricted to Omani nationals.

What This Means for Employers and Foreign Nationals

Employers in the private sector seeking to fill the restricted positions must find their candidates from among Omani nationals.

Affected foreign nationals with valid work visas must either amend their job titles or find alternative job opportunities as their visas will not be renewed upon expiry.

Background

In recent years, the MOM has implemented different measures that aim to increase the number of Omani nationals working in the private sector, including the ongoing suspension of recruitment of foreign nationals in 87 other professions and the amendment of part-time employment regulations for Omanis, among other decisions.
