Global TB cases decline for first time

The World Health Organization (WHO) has said the number of tuberculosis cases has dropped in 2010 for the first time, while the death toll reached its lowest level in a decade, Reuters has reported. Last year, 8.8 million people fell ill with TB and 1.4 million died, both marking a notable decline compared to years prior, said WHO. Around one third of the world's population is infected with the TB bacteria, but only a small portion ever develop the disease.
