Complex Made Simple

Exclusive: “The environment is changing; we aren’t prepared”

Gustaf Norbäck, CEO, Headspring Executive Development, talks about the leadership and learning priorities for 2019, business challenges, and more!

"We need to fully change business models; we need to adapt the businesses for this (digital) transformation, and it will take time" "It's a completely new paradigm. And large parts of organizations in the industries are going to be affected and are not prepared for it" "Ultimately, what we can harness from AI when it comes to personalized learning experiences and adaptive learning is massive"

"Cybersecurity is and will remain top of mind for sure because it's an incredible challenge for many businesses. Digital transformation is and will continue to be critical. Many businesses within all industries have embarked on this journey of digital transformation. And I think we need to fully change business models; we need to adapt the businesses for this transformation, and it will take time," said Gustaf Norbäck, CEO, Headspring Executive Development, while speaking exclusively to AMEinfo about the leadership priorities for 2019 and beyond, on the sidelines of the Diversity Council MENA launch in Dubai.

The former Financial Times CEO also shares his thoughts on the importance of upskilling and continuous learning. "Yes, there is a big upskilling that needs to happen. The environment is changing so fast, and we're not prepared. It's a new age, it's a completely new paradigm. And large parts of organizations in the industries are going to be affected and are not prepared for it. So, there's a big upskilling – but then, a continuous effort will need to be there because of the speed. Basically, it's about creating learning organizations within. You can't download knowledge as you did before or every X year, you go through some training program and so forth. This has to be continuously done the whole time at all levels within the organization," he said.

Speaking about the need for AI in personalized and adaptive learning, Gustaf Norbäck added, "Ultimately, the power – what we can harness from AI when it comes to personalized learning experiences and adaptive learning is massive. And we're really just at the starting point for this – call it revolution really. This is the ability to develop mastery of something; to increase retention and application – that is what's going to make a difference in developing your teams, your leaders and your whole organizations. So, yes, I think it's a massive opportunity and we're just at the beginning of this."
