HIPA signs MoU with WPO to support the launch of Dubai Photo 2016

Dubai Photo 2016 will provide a global perspective on photography, while cultivating appreciation and fostering dialogue in the region

The Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum International Photography Award (HIPA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the World Photography Organisation (WPO) at the beginning of last year.

The agreement, which took place at HIPA’s previous headquarters at the Dubai International Financial Centre (DIFC), was signed by His Excellency Ali bin Thalith, Secretary General of HIPA and Sandy Angus, WPO Chairman of the Board. Scott Gray, CEO and founder of WPO, and Sahar Al Zarei, Assistant Secretary General of HIPA acted as witnesses.

Through the signing of the MoU, HIPA and WPO have partnered to deliver Dubai Photo in March 2016. The exhibit is in line with HIPA’s strategy to promote Dubai as a hub for local and international photography and to nurture photographic excellence through educational programs, events and workshops.

Dubai Photo 2016 will provide a global perspective on photography, while cultivating appreciation and fostering dialogue in the region. By creating a showcase of artistic works curated by experts from around the world, it promises to deliver one of the world’s first global photography exhibitions of this scale.

Commenting on the signing, H.E. Ali bin Thalith, Secretary General of HIPA said, “HIPA is delighted to have embarked on this partnership with the World Photography Organisation, allowing us to showcase some of the most talented photographers from the UAE and around the world, and to celebrate their skill and artistry. Together, through Dubai Photo 2016, we hope to reinforce Dubai as one of the world’s most artistically conscious and established cities.”

Scott Gray, CEO of WPO, added, “The World Photography Organisation is very excited to be involved with Dubai Photo. It promises to be a formidable event that will unite the appreciation of photography worldwide. We commend HIPA’s vision and look forward to supporting them in bringing together such an incredible selection of leading artists, from both past and present, with the industry’s best curators. Dubai will certainly be the home of photography in March.”

Held under the Patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan Bin Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the Crown Prince of Dubai, Dubai Photo 2016 will exhibit works chosen by hand-picked and highly experienced international curators bringing together the best photography from around the world under one roof. It aims to promote the work of the exhibited photographers through this global platform, affording them a chance for wider exposure and recognition.
