The sixth edition of the annual Al Ain Education & Career Fair (AECF), which takes place at the Al Ain Convention Centre on 28-30 April, has witnessed increased support from world renowned educational establishments Glion Institute of Higher Education and Paris Sorbonne University, as well as the American University of Ras Al Khaimah, and the International Maritime College Oman.
The three-day event helps job seekers, fresh graduates and school leavers enhance their professional skills and look for career opportunities with companies including ADNOC, ADWEA, Etihad Airways, Mubadala Aerospace, First Gulf Bank, Supreme Council for National Security as well as higher educational opportunities with some of the world’s best hospitality training institutions.
Khurram Saeed, Exhibition Director, AECF, said: “This year we have seen a 10% growth in floor space over the 2013 edition, and attendance is expected to grow by 15%. The substantial growth of this fair over the past five years highlights its success in providing invaluable educational and career opportunities for young graduates and school leavers.”
Based on statistics from the UAE Labour Ministry, over 90% of the Emirati working population of 225,000 are employed in the public sector. The UAE private sector, despite employing over 4 million expatriates, is only home to approximately 22,000 Emiratis.
According to the UAE National Agenda, an extension launched by the government to achieve the UAE Vision 2021 in time for the UAE’s golden jubilee celebration, Emiratisation in the private sector is set to increase tenfold over the next seven years, meaning the approximate private sector Emirati workforce could reach over 200,000 by the time Dubai World Expo 2020 takes place.
Recent media reports state that the UAE government is studying a number of measures to make the private sector more attractive for Emiratis, by bringing its benefits more into line with those in the public sector.
“To now have the support of world class institutions like Glion and Paris Sorbonne, will give the fair even more opportunity to help the local youth in pursuing higher education,” added Khurram.
Other participating education institutions include the Al Ain University, the New York Institute of Technology, University of Sharjah, Khalifa University, the University of Jazeera and many more.
Sponsors for Al Ain Education & Career Fair 2014 include GHQ Armed Forces, ADVETI, Institute of Applied Technology, ETIHAD Airways, ADNOC, Al Khawarizmi International College and the New York Institute of Technology.
