The number of factories in Qatar reached 761 in 2014, with total investments of $82.3 billion, says a senior official.
Abdulaziz bin Hamad Al-Ageel, secretary general of the Gulf Organization for Industrial Consulting (GOIC), says that the number of workers in these factories reached approximately 74,900, Qatar-based Al Sharq reports.
He says: “In 2014, the number of small and medium-sized factories in the GCC region amounted to 13,480 and accounted for 82.7 per cent of the total number of factories operating in transformative industries.
“In Qatar, the number of small and medium-sized factories in the same year reached 588 and accounted for nearly 87.6 per cent of the total number of factories operating in Qatar.”
He adds that the total flow of foreign direct investments (FDI) in the GCC countries amounted to roughly $21.7bn in 2014, according to data released by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD).
FDI in Qatar amounted to $1.04bn in the same year, accounting for 4.8 per cent of the total FDI in GCC region, continues Al-Ageel.
