Jordan will not extend fee exemptions for home buyers

Jordanian finance minister Mohammad Abu Hammour has ruled out plans to extend the fee exemption granted to homebuyers, which expires at the end of this month, Jordan Times has reported. The minister's remarks came one day after Petra news agency quoted an unnamed source as saying that the government plans to extend the exemption decision until the end of the third quarter of this year. Under the decision, which was put in place in June 2010, the first 150 sq m of apartments sized 300 sq m or less are exempted from registration fees, while registration fees and taxes on properties were slashed from 10% to 5%.
