Kuwait University students get supply chain insights from Alshaya

A group of Mechanical Engineering students from Kuwait University recently visited retail franchise operator M.H. Alshaya’s Mina Abdullah Warehouse to gain first-hand experience of logistics and supply chain processes.

The group of 25 students was accompanied by Professor Dr. Souhaila Al-Mutawa, and was shown what goes into maintaining a successful warehouse facility and the technology used by Alshaya to maintain a seamless supply of goods to its stores across the country.

The group was extremely impressed by the warehouse, which serves as a central distribution hub for more than 350 Alshaya stores across Kuwait. With more than 450 employees, the warehouse ensures that the needs of the different sectors of the business, such as Fashion & Footwear, Health & Beauty and Food, are met daily.

“Real-world experience is hugely helpful, and enhances our practical knowledge, in addition to the things we learn in class. Learning from an industry leader like Alshaya is always a great advantage,” said one of the visiting students.

The visit was part of Alshaya’s ongoing commitment to providing opportunities to the communities in which it operates. Other initiatives by the company include annual summer internships for Kuwaiti students, and graduate programmes for young professionals.
