An AMEinfo exclusive

Tired of flying economy and have eyes on business class? Want to move from being an invitee at VIP venues to the one doing the inviting?

If you feel ready for prime time, then you are a top candidate for a club membership at Socios, the newest app launched in the UAE, geared for those driven to succeed at greater speeds.

Socios, which means ‘partners’ in Spanish, aims to link investors, influencers, entrepreneurs, and professionals who simply want to make money while enjoying the company of like-minded people.

Danny Hendrikus, founder of Socios Member Club, explained at launch: “This is an online club for the money makers, for the hunters out there looking for opportunities. Whether you’re seeking an investor to fund your business plan or looking for influencers to promote your brand, Socios will connect you with other members based on your interest.”

In an interview with AMEinfo, Danny revealed ingenious strategies behind the original idea, the business, and the rewards for club members.

What Socios is (and isn’t)

Socios is based on a concept that mostly combines Instagram and LinkedIn, allowing members to download the app, create a profile, explain what they are looking for, and get instantly connected.  Building a referral network can by itself earn members a substantial secondary income.

“Socios is not about sharing your lifestyle as social media apps mainly do. The functionality and design are not made for users to become addicted to the platform. Instead, we want them to focus. Say what they’re looking for. Find it, close a deal and move on,” Danny was quick to explain.

This is also not a free app. It will be available for a monthly fee of $1 until November 1st 2021, after which it will become $29.99.

How did the idea come about?

The idea began taking shape in May 2019.

“I was at Dubai’s JBR and it dawned on me how people spent so much time on social apps where millions promote services, products or themselves, but many of those still struggled to make a proper living,” 42-year-old marketer, software developer, and 5-year UAE resident, Danny, said.

“I wondered ‘what if one app can make it work for them, make them money, where product and service ideas can grow and prosper, and smalltime influencers can generate income, all from a new kind of network?’ Six months later, I had the concept quite clear in my head.”

Then COVID-19 hit.

Keeping the dream alive

A two-month pre-launch period saw the Socios app go live in early July after being available in app stores since January.

“The software is the biggest thing and we are still testing, debugging, a process that still needs a proper 6 months after release to really test the application,” Danny revealed.

“I had to deal with COVID last year, and the project got delayed one year. I have close to $1 million invested into the project and now we’re ready to launch a marketing campaign, strategizing on which channels and regions to launch onto.”

Danny’s aim is not confined to Dubai and the UAE.

“The world is our market. Marketing could be like a big black hole where you put a lot in and don’t know what comes out. But now the fun part starts because I am following a dream with something tangible in my hands.”

Literally shooting for the stars

Socios aims at having 100,000 active members, globally, within a 2-3 year period.

“By active I mean not app browsers, but movers and shakers who are looking for opportunities, with entrepreneurs using things like concierge services as networking and vertical pathways to a better lifestyle, and UAE’s Dubai is very well suited for this to happen,” Danny said.

“If by the end of this year, I have 10,000 happily registered members, then we have a good starting base.”

Concierge services are one of the things that come free of charge as part of the $30 ($29.99) subscription model fee.

“With countless free apps out there, not many would be willing to pay for one unless it comes with robust benefits like a concierge service,” Danny said who added, “Living in Dubai, knowing the right people in the right places, I personally use a lot of these services and know-how powerful they can be for upward mobility.”

As a Socios club member, one can earn privileges and this is one of them.

“Building a business network requires having a flair for the prestige, and knowing who the managers and the floormen you can call on for reserving seats for your party in restaurants or clubs when they’re exclusive or really fully booked makes all the difference,” Danny explained.

“And concierge service providers usually earn a commission for clients they plug into venues, and as such, it’s not a cost on the application.”

Members-only benefits

A Socios subscription is uniquely designed to earn ‘members-only’ privileges and rewards, part of unmatched USPs the app brings to the table.

“The app needs to be fun-filled with ‘members-only events, lotteries, awards, and rewards,” Danny said.

And the fun won’t stop there. Once the club has enough subscribers, Socios will start to host members’ only events.

“In 6 months’ time, Formula One in Abu Dhabi would be an attractive event for Socios to have its own boat or venue, perfect timing for the real launch of Socios next November,” Danny said.

But the rewards for conducting real business are really compelling for early entrepreneurs with followers or starting influencers.

“There are influencers with 20-30,000 or up to 100,000 followers who have reach but still can’t monetize. With Socios, we have an ongoing reward program based on building a network,” Danny unveiled.

An invite button within the app called “Invite to Socios” can send an invitation to all applications on someone’s phone, including Facebook, WhatsApp, LinkedIn, and more.

The message says something like “I’m part of Socios, would you like to join?” and if they join, they become part of that member’s network.

“We see who invited you. Those you invite then start to invite others, and so on, and they all fall under the original member’s network, who is rewarded via PayPal with $1 per follower,” Danny explained.

“The idea is similar to how multi-level marketing works but here we don’t require you to buy products. It’s free. The point is that inviting 3-4 new members can, from these, lead to 3-4,000 under your network, and you can calculate the math at $1 per.”

And these programs are built-in using Socios’ $30 subscription revenue model.

“If we break it up, we pay VAT ranging from 5% to 20% depending on which country we operate in, another 30% is paid for apple and google app stores, and another $7 goes to the reward program, which is a 7-tiered revenue generation model for subscribers,” Danny detailed.

“Our gross revenue per subscriber is $10 and the basis upon which we calculate future revenues and ROIs.”

Danny is the sole owner of Socios, but with a subscription to his app, the days when entrepreneurs go it alone against the odds will be long gone.

Socios. Lifestyle is the new business.
