Lootah opens ‘Your Child in Gold’ weight loss contest

Hundreds of Dubai residents with their families and children rushed to the designated registration sites in five major parks in Dubai to register for recently launched ‘Your Child in Gold’ initiative by Dubai Municipality as the onsite registration started on July 15, 2014 which will continue till July 24.

Eng. Hussain Nasser Lootah, Director General of Dubai Municipality has officialy launched the onsite registration and the weight loss programme in Al Mamzar Beach in the presence of Eng. Esa Maidour, DG of DHA, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC and other senior officials of Dubai Municipality.

Lootah said that this is the continuation of last year’s ‘Your Weight in Gold’ initiative with the same objective to create awareness on the necessity of adopting a healthy lifestyle with special focus on children and families.

‘A healthy society can only contribute to the balanced development of our country in tune with the aspirations of our wise leadership. We are greatly inspired by the directives of H.H Sheikh Mohamed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, the UAE VP, PM and Ruler of Dubai to launch this initiative, and we have great hope to have overwhelming response from the society based on our successful experience last year.

The onsite registration in five locations reached 1,362 participants in the first day, out of which 219 contestants are family members. The online registration totaled at 9,219 so far out of which 1,391 are family members.

The registration timing is from 9.00 pm to 12 am on daily basis in five sites namely Al Mamzar jogging track, Al Khawaneej jogging track Gate No.3 , Safa Park Gate No.2, Zabeel Park Gate No.3 and Al Barsha Park main entrance.

Long queues were seen in all sites in spite of hot climate and tiredness of fasting and prolonged prayers which was a rare and lovely scene of mingling with different nationalities united for a noble cause.

According to Walid Al Shaibani, head of DM club and coordinator of the campaign, this year we expect 15,000 participants to register since the initiative is aimed at encouraging children and families to participate and educating them on how to address the obesity issue caused by bad lifestyle and addiction to TV, internet and other electronic devices.

Terms and conditions, information about awards and other general health tips and instructions are given on the website:

Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman, DMCC, said: ‘DMCC is proud to take part in the ‘Your Child in Gold’ campaign with Dubai Municipality for the second year running and we are pleased to see the strong turn-out here at the Almamzar Beach Walk launch this evening,’.

‘Last year 10,000 people enrolled in the 30-day challenge and we hope to encourage more participants this year. The programme is not just about winning gold for a short-term commitment to exercise, it aims to encourage society to permanently adopt a healthier lifestyle and to do away with the bad habits and toxic environments,’ he said.

‘That is one of many reasons why DMCC is increasing its contribution to the campaign this year by providing AED 200,000 worth of gold with the ultimate goal of raising awareness of the benefits of exercise combined with a healthy diet. As Dubai residents strive to make healthier choices during the holy month of Ramadan, this campaign offers a novel way for participants to help themselves and hopefully to help motivate others – it’s a win for everyone,’. He added.
