In line with the Bank’s commitment towards Employee Engagement, leading financial institution in the Middle East & North Africa Mashreq Qatar has confirmed its support and sponsorship to its staff member who will be attempting to climb Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe.

Mashreq Qatar’s staff member Mohamed Alaa – Asst. The attempt to climb Mount Elbrus will form the 2nd stage of the challenge. The Bank’s sponsorship covers the cost of the 8 day journey.

Expressing his excitement prior to the trip, the climber Mohamed Alaa said: “I took up mountaineering as a sport and hobby in early 2008 and I accepted the 7-summit challenge last year when I successfully summited Kilimanjaro Mountain in August 2014, the highest in Africa and the highest free standing mountain in the world. My next challenge is conquering Mount Elbrus this year and I’m grateful that Mashreq Qatar will be part of the experience and made it Possible for me to carry on the 7-summit challenge. Such challenges are great to encourage employees in endeavors that stretch them to reach and secure new levels of attainment.”

Henk Hoogendoorn, Mashreq Qatar Country Head commented: “At Mashreq, We Make Possible and we most definitely wanted to reflect that towards our staff members. As a progressive, local employer it is our role to empower our staff for them to achieve new goals, whether in the work place or other areas of their lives; we are delighted to be sponsoring Mohamed’s latest challenge and wish him a successful climb.”

Alaa is now on his way to Russia encouraged by his friends and colleagues at Mashreq Qatar to summit the 5,642 meter high mountain which is considered the highest in Europe, a fact confirmed by both the Bass and Messner list of the seven summits. Mount Elbrus is a dormant volcano and an ultra-prominent peak which takes a total of 7 to 8 days to climb and return back to the base.
