Sharjah-based medical waste management firm, Wekaya has opened the UAE'S first medical waste treatment plant in the emirate, Gulf Today has reported. The plant has a daily capacity to handle 3.5 tonnes of waste from the 422 medical facilities in Sharjah. Wekaya will collect, transport and treat all types of medical waste, except hazardous waste. The facility will launch Phase II of the project in the near future to treat hazardous waste.
