Zawawi Trading Company, the exclusive distributor for Mercedes-Benz in Oman, has embarked on a specialist training program for high school students to encourage their interest in a future automotive technical career.
The first technical car maintenance activity course was offered to a group of high school students of the Al Sahwa School in Oman. The event sparked great interest to gain knowledge though practical training on luxury cars.
The group of seven students, aged between 16 and 18, were required to do this as part of the school extra-curricular activity. The program was run by the certified technical trainer from ZTC, Mr. Eisa Babkir and it is part of Zawawi Trading Company’s broader social responsibility program which aims at continually investing in the development of Omani youth.
The program involved an intensive curriculum where students were introduced to the S-Class and the Actros truck with an understanding of basic diagnostics. Students were given a guided tour of the company and its workshop and insights into latest developments in vehicle technology.
“Zawawi Trading Company has a history of youth advocacy support. It is our task to invest in young people and provide them with the knowledge and tools to become catalysts for the future local economic growth. We are privileged to be able to put Mercedes-Benz Training Centre for the benefit of young Omani and to develop a new generation of employment and training professionals.” said Clive Hammond, CEO Automotive.
Speaking about the training, Daniel Fitzjohn, General Manager – After-Sales said, “This is one-of-a-kind program for students in high school. It is not very often that one comes across means for the youth to learn hands on – and that is what this program is all about. We hope that the students will have much to take home!”
New batches of students are expected to follow suit and have their own training taking place in 2015.
