Under the patronage of H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Regents, Abu Dhabi University celebrated on Monday 26th January the graduation of 1543 undergraduate and postgraduate students of its ninth graduating class. This new cohort of ADU graduates includes 1011 undergraduate students, 528 postgraduate students, as well as ADU’s second cohorts of Doctor of Business Administration graduates and 31 cadets from the University’s joint program with “Etihad Airways”.
They are the second batch of national cadres equipped with a Bachelor of Science in Aviation, offered through Abu Dhabi University’s College of Engineering. The ninth graduating class also includes 579 honor graduates, 243 from the College of Arts and Sciences, 74 from the College of Business Administration and 46 from the College of Engineering, in addition to 216 cadets graduating with honors from the University’s military programs.
H.E. Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan Minster of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Vice-President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Regents inaugurated the ceremony, in the presence of: H.E Dr. Maitha Al-Shamsi UAE Minister of State, Member of ADU’s Board of Regents, H.E. Saeed Eid Al Ghafli, Chairman of the Department of Municipal Affairs, H.E Dr. Hadef Bin Jua’an Al Daheri, H.E. Humaid Al Qutami, H.E Dhafer Sahmi Al Ahbabi, Vice Chairman of Abu Dhabi University’s Executive Board, and members of ADU’s faculty and staff as well as the graduates families.
During his speech, H.E Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan explained the graduation of the 9th class from Abu Dhabi University; is also a celebration of this young university’s firm commitment to be always leading and outstanding, supported by a strong foundation of experiences, expertise and achievements over more than eleven years.
“We thank Allah for ADU’s achievements that have been constant and continuous driven by its commitment to a set of values and principles which made it indeed a successful university, despite of its young age. Today, the University has over 6000 students studying 23 undergraduate programs, in addition to 13 postgraduate programs and the DBA. The University has also graduated over 6500 who all contribute confidently & effectively in all aspects of the community’s activities. Furthermore, Abu Dhabi University’s keenness to achieve quality and excellence is evident in its recent achievement of academic accreditation for its engineering programs from ABET, as well as its pursuit of institutional accreditation from WASC. Additionally, ADU has implemented strategic plans focusing on enriching student’s learning experience, supporting scientific research and developing important programs that serve the environment and develop the community, through a channel of communication with the most prominent international universities, affirming always that serving Abu Dhabi and the UAE is the cornerstone of all its programs and activities”, said H.E Sheikh Nahayan.
“This joyous celebration of the University, its graduates and it achievements is also a celebration of its founder and the leader of its journey, H.H. Sheikh Hamdan Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the Ruler’s Representative in the Western Region and President of Abu Dhabi University’s Board of Regents. We take great pride that this University is an embodiment of his insightful vision for the role of education in the nation, and we take great pride in His Highness’s leadership. This celebration is also a significant occasion in which we express our sincere gratitude, appreciation, and allegiance to H.H. Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE President. We are very proud of his strong support for learning institutions and constant keenness to elevate the stature of this nation and reinforce its foundations. We assure His Highness that Abu Dhabi University will always be a committed national University that contributes to the community’s march towards a successful, safe and outstanding future”, added H.E Sheikh Nahayan.
H.E Sheikh Nahayan pointed out: “Our sincere appreciation goes out also to H.H. General Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces, for His Highness’s directives that learning institutions in the UAE must be the most advanced example of higher education in the region and the world, to provide all the means of success and progress to the sons and daughters of the UAE”.
Addressing the graduates, His Excellency said: “We look forward to your contributions to your country and the world. To achieve that, you should be: role models and great examples of hard work, assuming responsibility and keenness to lifelong learning, and strive to always reach the goals and purposes you set for yourself. Let it be known that your efforts and performance in the future will contribute tremendously to promote the prestigious stature of this University to the world”.
As Valedictorian of ADU’s ninth graduating class, Saeed Al Neyadi a MBA graduates said: “On behalf of all the graduates, I would like extend our sincere gratitude and appreciation to our beloved nation’s wise leadership for their directives and unlimited support of the massive development witnessed in our country in various fields. Their support of higher education in the UAE and pioneering effort and vision has made higher education in the UAE a regional and international model”.
At the conclusion of the ceremony, H.E Sheikh Nahayan Bin Mabarak Al Nahayan, presented the graduates with their degrees.
