New entity to help Jordanian contractors enter regional markets

Jordan's ministry of public works and housing has announced plans to set up a special unit tasked with facilitating Jordanian construction contractors' entry to regional markets, Jordan Times has reported. The entity, which will be affiliated with the ministry, will be run by representatives from the ministry, the Jordan Construction Contractors Association (JCCA), the Jordan Engineers Association and the Housing Investors Society as well as members from other ministries concerned with promoting Jordanian products and services abroad, the ministry said. The volume of construction projects in the kingdom in 2010 dropped to JD650m from JD3.5bn last year, according to Ahmad Tarawneh, JCCA president.
