Oman money exchange centres to request one day weekend

A group of money exchange firms in Oman are set to request from the central bank this week to allow them to close for a day during the week-end, Times of Oman has reported, citing an industry source. Money exchange centres in the Sultanate work for seven days a week, throughout the year. "Four or five money exchanges will request the central bank on July 4 in our meeting to allow us to close it for a day, preferably on Saturday, when we have a slack business," said the source. They will also request the apex lender to introduce flexibility in remittance fees, as money exchanges in Oman charge OR2.5 per remittance, the source added. "Oman has the highest remittance fee in the entire GCC region. Exchange firms in Dubai and Qatar charge only an amount equivalent to OR1.5."
