Omani Products Expo scheduled for Dubai in September

Plans for the third Omani Products Exhibition (OPEX) in Dubai have made significant progress ahead of September’s event with nearly 70 companies already confirmed to participate following a series of site visits to industrial estates in Sohar, Nizwa and Salalah.

During their 12th preparatory meeting, the organizing committee, consisting of Ithraa, the Public Establishment for Industrial Estates (PEIE) and the Oman Chamber of Commerce & Industry (OCCI also signed off on a marketing and media plan, ensuring OPEX is well received at the Dubai International Convention & Exhibition Centre on 14-16 September.

Ayman Abdullah Al Hasani, Chairman of the OPEX Organizing Committee, said, “The site visits to industrial areas have proved successful in demonstrating the many benefits of OPEX and encouraging companies to participate. Increased trade between Oman and the UAE also demonstrates the growing reputation and demand for Omani products across the region.”

He went on to say, “Following the previous two OPEX events in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, more than 75% of exhibitors have secured new deals with importers, and we are confident September’s show will produce similar results. OPEX is a huge opportunity to unite the efforts of public and private sector organizations to increase the visibility of Oman-made products in emerging as well as mature markets.”

Nasima Al Balushi, Ithraa’s Director General of Export Development commented: “Preparations for September’s OPEX are gathering pace and appointing a specialist event management company is a major step forward. Indeed, one that will ensure the Dubai event runs smoothly. The marketing and media plan will help us achieve our targets as well as secure major footfall at the show. We want this show to be a memorable event.”

With Ithraa looking to increase non-oil product trade by 15% in 2014, OPEX is a strategic platform for local companies to showcase goods to importers and consumers from across the Gulf region. To date, participating companies represent some of the Sultanate’s key growing sectors including the food and beverage, textiles and garments, minerals and metals, equipment and machinery, furniture, as well as paper, plastic, non-metallic, petrochemical, chemicals, fabricated metal and recycled products.
