Qatar Petrochemical Company (QAPCO) Q.S.C. and the College of Engineering at Qatar University are taking an innovative approach for collaboration between academia and industry by signing a new agreement that details all existing and new initiatives for 2014. Within the scope of this agreement six university projects will be funded by the Petrochemical giant providing extra financial and technical support from the company that will be of great benefit to the students of the University.
The new initiatives include the following activities and events and all have been designed to increase awareness of technical and engineering issues to not only the students currently studying at the College of Engineering but also to local high school students.

Wooden Bridge Program
Dr. Mohammed Al Mulla, QAPCO’s VC&CEO, was extremely pleased to sign this agreement saying, “The continual exchange between academia and industry is something that QAPCO has worked very hard on for the past few years as it will help to create the best-possible education for both Qatari and Expatriate students and will, I am sure have a positive impact upon the Oil & Gas Industry in the future. Within the scope of the agreement we will financially support these excellent initiatives, but QAPCO will do more than that by providing subject-matter experts to be directly involved in the events either by participating as a judge at the contests or by offering technical assistance to help the teams of students.”
Dr. Rashid Al Ammari, the Dean of the College of Engineering, thanked Dr. Al Mulla and QAPCO for their continued support and praised the strong partnership between the University and QAPCO, “From Qatar University’s perspective, collaborations between the Education sector and Industry make a substantial contribution to our students education and also help us to promote engineering and technical disciplines to High school students. It really is a win-win situation for all concerned.”
The first two events of the year the Computing Contest and the Life is Engineering Program have already been launched with local schools, as both events will be happening in May.
QAPCO was established in 1974 and is a joint venture between Industries Qatar (80%) and Total Petrochemicals (20%). QAPCO is one of the largest producers of low density polyethylene (LDPE) in the region. LDPE is considered as the most widely used to of plastic, providing innovative and practical applications such as food packaging, cables, agricultural films or toys and playing a key role in the development of green building solutions. LDPE enriches the daily lives of million of people around the planet. QAPCO is involved in a number of joint ventures that include QATOFIN, RLOC, QVC, and QPPC, thereby, producing various petrochemical products such as Ethylene, LLDPE, EDC, VCM, Caustic Soda etc., making QAPCO a regional petrochemical powerhouse.
