RAK opens stroke centre

RAK Hospital has said its new specialised Acute Stroke Unit will be a boon to patients, as only 3% of patients with brain attacks manage to reach the hospital on time for effective treatment, Khaleej Times has reported. The new unit was set up after a study showed 25% of the Ras Al Khaimah population to be diabetic and also suffer from hypertension, which means one in four people are at risk, said Dr Hillol K Pal, head of Neurosurgery department at RAK Hospital. "Since the start of the unit, the RAK Hospital has received 12 stroke patients, out of which five actually reached within the Golden Hour (they had reached within 1 hour)."
