The Abu Dhabi Health Services Company (SEHA) is offering valuable medical services and educational talks at the Health & Fitness Fun Week 2014 which is being organized the Abu Dhabi Centre for Technical and Vocational Education and Training from 13 – 21 February. The event is held under the patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak, Supreme Chairwoman of the Family Development Foundation, President of the General Women’s Union and Mother of the Nation.

Ambulatory Healthcare Services, a SEHA Health System Facility, is participating in the exhibition taking place at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Center from February 19 to 21 in cooperation with Sheikh Khalifa Medical City and Mafraq Hospital. This is in addition to a number of activities which were held in other venues, such as Abu Dhabi Corniche.

As part of its participation in the exhibition, SEHA is organizing number of awareness and educational activities, including the mobile clinic, which offers free health and dental screening for visitors. SEHA has also setup the SEHA Activity Zones which provides a wide range of engaging educational activities under the supervision of expert professionals in the medical field.

One such zone is the ‘Nutrition Zone’ which involve a series of interactive models and displays entitled ‘Stop! Think before you eat’. The activity aims to spread awareness about the importance of eating healthy and avoiding saturated fats, which are often the root causes for diseases like diabetes. The zone also included a display of the fiber content of healthy food and a hands-on activity for children to design their healthy plate.

Additionally, SEHA’s activities in the Dental Zone are provinga great success, where its initiative entitled “Meet Your Friend the Dentist” hopes to break the fear barrier that children commonly experience when going to dentist through introducing the children to the tools a dentist uses in a friendly and comfortable environment. Children are then presented with a “Dental Hero” certificates as an encouragement for their participation. In addition, the activity ‘Let your smile shine’ allows children to practice proper brushing techniques using oversized models.

At the same time, the company’s campaign to spread awareness on hand hygiene called ‘Be a germ buster’ is intriguing visitors as they see experienced using an ultraviolet device and glow-in-the-dark gel to reveal common places where bacteria hide. The activity is especially successful in catching the attention of the younger crowds.

In continuing to attract the attention of youth and children, SEHA’s ‘Be smart don’t start’ campaign aims to raise awareness on the adverse effects of smoking on the human body, offering a coloring activity for children to visualize the effects of smoking on the lungs, mouth and teeth of an individual before and after smoking. Teams from both Ambulatory Healthcare Services and Sheikh Khalifa Medical City are also conducting activities allowing children to understand the effect of smoking on their breathing.

The stand also includes ‘Salem Theatre’ where children can sit and watch episodes of Salem, Ambulatory Healthcare Services cartoon character which is used to children on the importance of healthy living habits in a medium they understand.

Commenting on their participation in the programme, SEHA PR and communications director Salama Al Mazroui said, “SEHA is always keen to participate in such activities. Our support of this programme stems from our core strategies aimed at involving ourselves in all public health related educational initiatives.”

Ms. Mazroui called on all members of society to participate in health related events and to exercise in order to improve longevity, while reducing the incidence of diseases, like diabetes, high blood pressure and obesity.

More than 50 local and global organizations in the health and fitness sectors take part in the Health & Fitness Fun Day Exhibition every year, with an aim to promote healthy living habits.
