Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign provides mobile room for mothers and babies at Al Majaz Waterfront

The Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign have participated in the 8th Sharjah Water Festival, a four-day event being organised by the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority (SCTDA) at Al Majaz Waterfront from 17 to 20 December, by offering a variety of entertainment and sporting activities that can be enjoyed and appreciated by all members of the family and all age groups.

Sharjah Baby-Friendly Emirate Campaign, the sub-sponsor of the festival, provided a private infant nursing room at the main venue of the festival, to enable mothers feed and care for their babies while attending the activities of the festival.

The mobile room is fully equipped with nursing mother’s facilities such as a nursing chair, a fridge, and a number of specialised coordinators who offer tips and guidelines on how to take care of babies and provide booklets containing advices and instructions on breastfeeding.

The Sharjah Baby Friendly Emirate Campaign was launched in March 2012 under the directives of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, and under the generous patronage of Her Highness Sheikha Jawaher Bint Mohammed Al Qasimi, Wife of the Ruler of Sharjah and Chairperson of the Supreme Council for Family Affairs.

The campaign is aimed at creating a better and healthier environment for future generations, and hence it aspires to ensure that all health facilities, establishments, nurseries, workplaces, and public places provide a healthy environment for babies and mothers, with the aim of Sharjah becoming totally baby-friendly by 2015.
