According to the directives by His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said, the Award ceremony for the Sultan Qaboos Award for Excellence in eGovernment 2014 will be held under the auspices of HE Dr. Ali bin Masoud Al Sunaidy, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Council for Planning.
The Information Technology Authority (ITA) is organizing the Award Ceremony scheduled to be held on Wednesday 3rd December 2014 at the Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) Cultural Centre Grand Hall. 13 projects will be awarded during the ceremony out of 70 projects submitted from 39 government and private entities.
Mr. Jimmy Wales, Founder of Wikipedia, will attend the Award Ceremony and deliver a keynote speech on the occasion. He will also give a one hour presentation entitled “Harnessing the Power of Social Media and Wiki Future” to the students from colleges and universities in the Sultanate and IT specialists and enthusiasts on 3rd December 2014, at Lecture Theatre 1 at SQU, at 11 AM.
This year, the award contains 13 categories including; 9 categories for the government entities, these include the four core categories of Best eContent, Best eService, eReadiness and Best eProject that contains two sub categories: collaborative and interoperable. There are five sub-categories under eService: G2G, G2E, G2B, G2C and Mobile Services. As well, under the eProject category are two sub-categories: Individual and Collaborative.
The private sector big organizations are competing in 2 categories: Best Public Mobile eServices and Best Public eServices; and the SMEs, for the first time, are competing in 2 categories: Best Public Mobile eServices and Best eSolution.
