Tawdheef awards standout organisations for pro-active recruitment drive during event

The three companies which conducted the most interviews during this year’s Tawdheef careers fair, which closed on 5 February at Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre, were recently honoured at the inaugural Tawdheef Recognition Award presentation.

The Petroleum Institute, which conducted over 1000 interviews during the three days with Emiratis looking to enter the UAE’s Oil & Gas sector, was awarded the coveted top spot. The Institute currently has over 75 vacancies that it is aiming to fill using the CVs collected, and interviews conducted, at the fair.

Following closely behind were the capital’s Government entities Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and Abu Dhabi Police. Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority conducted 889 onsite interviews, and Abu Dhabi Police secured 860 onsite interviews during the fair.

“In line with Abu Dhabi’s 2030 vision, we are working toward having one of the largest Emirati workforces in the UAE’s education sector. The show allowed us to conduct over 1000 interviews in a three day period directly with students and Emirati jobseekers interested in the markets that we operate.” said Abdulla Mohamed Al Ameri, Head of Capabilities Development and Human Resources Department, The Petroleum Institute Abu Dhabi.

“The Recognition Award is an excellent incentive, and I applaud all companies involved for helping more Emiratis reach their career goal.” added Al Ameri.

The award has been created to encourage exhibitors to be as proactive as possible during the event, and to support the thousands of UAE national graduates and candidates in their search for a new job or career.

“The response we have had this year has been overwhelming. If you were to add up the total number of interviews conducted by the winner, and runners up, they have collectively interviewed on average over 100 Emiratis, every hour, for the duration of the event.” said Hayete Jemai, Exhibition Director, Tawdheef Careers Fair.

“The government named 2013 as the ‘year of Emiratisation’, and has run a number of initiatives across the country to attract UAE nationals to the many career opportunities that are available, both in the public and private sectors. The thousands of interviews that took place, in a short three day period, is not only a testament to the respective industries helping drive this initiative, but the interest UAE nationals have in getting a foot on the career ladder” added Jemai.

A total of forty seven organisations were in the running to receive an award, including Schlumberger, NBAD, Department of Municipal Affairs, UAE Exchange, Standard Chartered Bank, ADCB, Etihad Rail, First Gulf Bank, Cofely Besix & Alstom, TAQA, Reach Employment and Commercial Bank of Dubai, representing a combination of government, semi-government and private institutions covering a wide range of business sectors.

Tawdheef is sponsored by Titanium sponsor, GHQ Armed Forces, Platinum sponsors, the National Bank of Abu Dhabi (NBAD) and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank (ADIB), and Gold sponsors, Abu Dhabi Tourism & Cultural Authority, ADNOC, and the Department of Municipal Affairs, all of which had current job openings and long-term career opportunities to offer Emiratis.

Tawdheef 2014 was inaugurated by His Excellency Sheikh Nahyan Bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth & Development, and will return to the Abu Dhabi National Exhibition Centre in February 2015.
