A delegation from Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority (TCA Abu Dhabi) recently visited Tawam Hospital, Al Ain, in a volunteering initiative aimed at promoting the spirit of community service and humanitarian activism among employees.
The delegation included the Social Responsibility & Promotion staff at TCA Abu Dhabi and three volunteers from the Positive Cancer Foundation, who played a decisive role in coordinating this visit.
As part of Abu Dhabi Summer Season’s activities, the delegation distributed souvenir Shaun the Sheep toys in a gesture that inspires hope in child patients by making them feel the moral support and love they deserve. Photos were taken and children, aged less than a year to 16, had a great time with their visitors. This helped alleviate their pain and put a smile on their faces, especially that all 30 children received free tickets to attend the Mummenschanz show in Al Ain – also part of the three-month-long Abu Dhabi Summer Season.
The visit came in line with TCA Abu Dhabi’s social responsibility strategy that seeks to build communication bridges with all cancer patients’ age groups, listen to their concerns and support them morally and psychologically until they reach full recovery.
The visit falls within the idea that the psychological factor plays a significant role in cancer treatment, which can be a long, arduous process where children are kept off their games, toys and normal daily routine as kids. Thus, such visits and gifts help strengthen hope, determination and healing spirit, which is very important for patients in their fight against this disease.
