Global research and technology organisation TWI welcomed representatives from some of Abu Dhabi’s leading oil and gas companies to a technical seminar to demonstrate its plastic pipe testing equipment.
The event, which took place in Abu Dhabi’s Royal Méridien Hotel on Tuesday 15 December, was set up to demonstrate the capabilities of PolyTest, an invention from TWI that enables volumetric non-destructive testing (NDT) of electrofusion and butt fusion joints in polyethylene pipes. With the oil and gas industry moving towards increased use of polymeric materials, the system has the potential to greatly benefit the sector.
Thirty delegates from companies including ADCO, GASCO and ZADCO attended the seminar, which was organised by Caroline Young, Programme Manager for Oil and Gas, TWI UK and Ahsan Rauf, Business Development and Operations Manager at TWI Middle East, which is based in Abu Dhabi.
Ahsan was joined by two UK-based TWI specialists for the seminar: Technology Fellow Mike Troughton and NDT Team Manager Fredrik Hagglund, both of whom played key roles in PolyTest’s invention.
