On 12th December the British University in Dubai (BUiD), launched a PhD programme in Business Management. The region’s leading research-based university marked this addition to its suite of Masters and Doctoral programmes in a ceremony held at its campus.
The new programme responds to the UAE’s innovation strategy and has been carefully designed to challenge business leaders to come up with new ideas and creative processes to meet the needs of the UAE’s economic, industrial and commercial development.
At the event, Prof. Abdullah Al Shamsi, BUiD’s Vice Chancellor, welcomed the attendees and said: “This programme showcases BUiD’s strength in developing new programmes into suit the local community needs and contributing to the development of the UAE’s knowledge-economy and its intellectual capital.”
The programme suits professionals in commercial, public and non-profit sectors, and emphasizes technical and economic knowledge alongside a view that management practice is best informed by research evidence, and that problem solving requires skills of investigation and enquiry. The programme requires original and analytical thinking for the development of improved business, management and organization knowledge in the UAE and the region.
Guest of Honour, Mr. Neil Isaacson, Chairman and CEO of British Business Group, Dubai & Northern Emirates and BUID’s Council member talked about the role of effective management in the success of business and the importance of a PhD programme in this field.
Dr. Tamer Elewa, Assistant Professor, Head of HR Management and MBA Programmes at BUiD, provided information about the new programme and added,” Once again BUiD takes the lead in introducing a new graduate programme that is pioneering new concepts in higher education. Armed with a PhD in Business Management from BUiD, graduates will have the skills and knowledge to be the future leaders of UAE economy”
The programme is structured in two phases. In the first phase, students will consolidate and extend their academic understanding of their specialist field, develop research competence, and put together a plan of proposed research. Then in the second phase, students will undertake the research and report it as a thesis.
