UAE tops Arab countries in e-shopping

Easy access to WiFi and cultural diversity of population account for popularity of online purchases

The UAE topped the Arab countries in online shopping as 87 per cent of consumers in the UAE depend on the Internet for their purchases, recent statistics show.

According to the figures released by the global audit firm, PwC, 72 per cent of consumers in Saudi Arabia shop online, while 64 per cent shop online in Egypt, reports UAE-based Aliqtisadi.

The report says that the UAE accounts for highest proportion of the regional markets because of the easy access to WiFi and the cultural diversity of its population.

Commenting on this, Ziad Alshobaki, managing director of Quisk Middle East, said: “Statistics of online shoppers in the UAE, and the Middle East in general, show that all segments of society accept the idea of electronic payment and look to safe and simple platforms to do so.”
