Union National Bank (UNB) has become the first Bank in the world to be verified to follow the guidelines of ISO 26000 (Social Responsibility) by Lloyd’s Register.
On the occasion, UNB CEO, Mr. Mohammed Nasr Abdeen commented, “Year after year, the bank wins prestigious local and international awards for excellence. The success is attributed to loyal customers, hardworking and engaged staff, able leadership and guidance provided by senior management in meeting the expectations of the society.
UNB received the ISO 26000 ‘Statement of Implementation’ certificate after an extensive evaluation process that included Gap Analysis and multi stage assessments.
The focus is on the implementation of the core subjects of Organisational Governance, Human Rights, Labour Practices, Environment, Fair Operating Practices, Consumer Issues and Community Involvement &Development.
By adhering to the guidelines of ISO 26000, it is incumbent for an organization to be responsible for the impacts of its decisions and activities on society and the environment through transparent and ethical behavior that (a) Contributes to Sustainable Development including Health & welfare of society, (b) Takes into account the expectations of stakeholders such as customers, employees, society, regulatory bodies and shareholders, (c) Is in compliance with applicable laws and consistent with international norms of behavior and (d) Is integrated throughout the organization and practiced in its relationships.
Besides ISO 26000, UNB has also been certified to ISO 9001 (Quality Management), ISO 14001 (Environmental Management), OHSAS 18001 (Occupational Health & Safety Management) and ISO 27001 (Information Security Management). Besides it is also verified to follow the guidelines of ISO 10002 (Complaints Management), ISO 31000 (Risk Management).
