VOX brings the first IMAX, but also movie-going know-how, from the concession stand to the seating and the big screen.
VOX Cinemas said it is investing around $500 million to open 600 screens in the next five years in Saudi.
These new cinema developments will create some 3,000 direct jobs.
But right now, VOX is opening its first cinema in Riyadh Park Mall in the coming days.
VOX Cinemas, on April 19, was awarded one of the first licenses to operate cinemas in Saudi Arabia.
It will include VOX KIDS, the concept designed especially for young movie fans.
VOX Cinemas’ parent company Majid Al Futtaim has already announced project investments valued at $3.7 billion across its mall asset, fashion, leisure and retail offerings in Saudi.
This project is expected to create more than 114,000 direct and indirect job opportunities.
Majid Al Futtaim CEO Alain Bejjani thanked the Ministry of Culture and Information and the General Commission for Audio-visual Media for placing their confidence in Majid Al Futtaim’s contribution to Saudi’s new chapter.
Further cinemas currently under design include Majid Al Futtaim’s Mall of Saudi and City Centre Ishbiliyah, with both locations opening in Riyadh in the coming years.
VOX vs. AMC vs VUE
Through its partnership with 20th Century Fox, VOX will also be exclusively distributing Fox content to all cinemas across Saudi.
Bejjani added: “Majid Al Futtaim is proud to be one of the largest private sector investors in the kingdom and Vision 2030, with an investment commitment now increasing to $4 billion.”
AMC brought its own screens to the country with the first theater that launched this week, and public viewings expected to start on Friday.
The government plans to set up around 350 cinemas with over 2,500 screens by 2030, which they hope will attract nearly $1 billion in annual ticket sales.
VUE Cinemas announced it will be bringing its cinema multiplexes to Saudi as well, 30 of them to be exact, in the next three years.
