Service fee defaulters may lose homes in new Dubai strata law

According to a circular issued by Dubai's Real Estate Regulatory Agency (RERA), the Dubai Land Department has the power to repossess and auction off the homes of those who fail to pay maintenance fees as part of the emirate's new strata law, The National has reported. "Continued failure to pay the service charges may result in legal enforcement of the lien to recover the service charges, which may result in a public auction, with the outstanding service charges being deducted from the selling price," the circular said. Developers will be obliged to cover fees on unsold properties as well as those that have not been registered with the Land Department, the circular added.
