Addressing the issue of pilgrims getting lost or separated from their loved ones during Hajj, Arab News English Daily today launched a unique smartphone “Hajj App” for use during the annual pilgrimage season.
The “Hajj App” is sponsored and endorsed by the Makkah-based Muslim World League, is available for iOS and Android devices via the App Store and Google Play and provides critical features for use by both pilgrims and their families back home.
The app has a “pilgrim tracker” function enabling users to switch on to share their location and follow loved ones in real time, around the clock. This means worshippers can keep an eye on family and friends wherever they are.
The app functions for use during the Hajj season include the latest news updates from Arab News and a live broadcast service. It also provides important safety features such as emergency call numbers and list of all embassies and important service providers during Hajj.
Commenting on the launch, Arab News said the app will complement the newspaper’s renowned Hajj news coverage and thanked MWL for its support.
“This Arab News/Muslim World League cooperation is an ideal and practical example of a media outlet working with a non-governmental organization for the public good,” said Faisal J. Abbas, Editor-in-Chief of Arab News.
“Launching this app is part of Arab News’ digital transformation, and provides readers and English-speaking pilgrims added value and a very useful service.”
