London-based publisher Ink has closed a deal to produce Qatar Airways’ monthly in-flight magazine Oryx, Saudi English-language daily Arab News revealed Tuesday.
According to the report, the first edition under Ink’s production is expected to appear on January 1, and the publisher plans to place a dedicated advertising sales team in the GCC area to drive revenue from the publication. It is not yet known whether the publisher plans to station a fully-fledged office in the region.
Each edition of the magazine will reportedly have a different theme, such as art, style or innovation, giving it more of a premium stature.
“What we’re doing is massively upgrading the magazine,” Keating told Arab News. “It’s going to be much more premium in feel.”
Ink has a wide geographical spread, as it operates in different parts of the world ranging from the US, the UK and Singapore.
“What that means in terms of both editorial and sales, is that we already cover all of their network, which means that we can really maximize the opportunity in terms of ad sales and getting the best creative talent,” Keating said.
Ink recognises itself as a British travel media publishing and technology company. It publishes 26 in-flight magazines for 20 airlines worldwide, including United, Amtrak, Aer Lingus, EasyJet and American Airlines.
In the Middle East, Ink has produced magazines for Gulf Air for several years, and continues to work with Jazeera Airways, in addition to its new client, Qatar Airways.
Roughly 20 to 30 per cent of the Oryx magazine content will be about the Middle East region, Arab News reported.
