Online video industry seen tipping $16bn by 2018

Global Industry Analysts Inc. (GIA) has said the international online video market is expected to grow to $16.1bn by 2018, driven mainly by mass proliferation of broadband, expanding viewership in emerging markets, high-quality premium content and the ability to provide access to content any time, Rapid TV News has reported. The introduction of smartphones with bigger screens and tablet PCs is enabling the ubiquity of online videos to increase further, thereby fuelling growth in the market, the study said. The penetration of online videos in emerging regions, such as the Middle East, Latin America and Asia-Pacific, is seen to outpace the same in developed regions such as Europe and North America GIA said in the report.
